HRD Coffee Shop

A few weeks ago, one of my buddies showed me a video of a restaurant called HRD Coffee Shop that was featured on The Food Network’s ‘Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives’. Commonly, I do not watch this channel anymore due to having little interest in many of their shows now. However, one show I still enjoy is ‘Diner, Drive-ins, and Dives’. In reality, Guy Fieri is a local celebrity in my county and I always look forward to his Bay Area recommendations. If you want to see the video before continuing, here it is:

As for the location, the restaurant is located a few blocks from the San Francisco Giant’s AT&T Park. Consequently, due to the proximity the Coffee Shop is very much filled with Giant fans. It was very nice to see especially since I am from the Bay and root for all Bay Area teams. Consequently, if you are a Dodger fan just be aware you will be going on enemy grounds.

When entering the shop, you are able to see their menu in huge print at their register. This makes it easy for individuals who have no clue what to order yet, but still have to wait in line.

From the looks of the interior, the coffee shop isn’t very big. Inside there are plenty of stools and about four to six tables for groups in the back of the restaurant. Even though this may be a complaint to some, eaters need to remember this coffee shop isn’t your typical sit and lounge type of restaurant. Instead it is just an order, sit-down, eat, then-go-kind-of-place. Generally, it is a Diner Dash type of environment, if I had to make a comparison.

For my girlfriend’s dish, she ordered their Spicy Kimchi Pork Tacos. Originally it comes with pineapples, but she decided to not include them. Overall, she really enjoyed them. I had some too and was surprised how big they were. They gave three tacos and made sure they were packed with kimchi and meat. Definitely a good bang for your buck.

As for my dish, I ordered their Spicy Pork Kimchee Burrito. Basically, this was the same dish as the tacos, but the only difference was the rice. Personally, I enjoyed this more due to the addition of having rice with my kimchi. I feel kimchi and rice is always the love making combo you need so it was great to have it in this burrito. The pork was also very good. Similarly, to the tacos they included a lot of it. Therefore, you get a very packed burrito. If I had to make a recommendation, this would be my top one for first-time customers.

Before finishing this post, I want to shine the spot light on their hot sauce. Basically, I just want to make sure eaters try this if they are a hot sauce fan. These are homemade and actually spicy. Commonly, homemade hot sauces never do it for me. This place, however, actually stayed true to the word “hot” and gave a great kick. I was downing this sauce like Tapatio. As a result, give this sauce a try if you decide to come out here.

In conclusion, try this place out if you love Korean food, burritos, or breakfast. This place will definitely meet one or all of your needs.

I rarely write about places where I recommend their beverage over their food, but I am currently craving their latte and feel I must share about this special place. The restaurant I am referring to is called, Urth Caffe. This cafe is a popular place in Southern California where they are known for serving their customers organic tea, coffee, and food. In fact, this cafe is so popular that they are chained in  four different locations: West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and Downtown Los Angeles. For my personal experience, I had the pleasure of visiting their downtown location.

On my last day in SoCal for vacation, my friend and I decided to meet-up for breakfast before I had to drive back to the Bay Area. Since I am not from the area, I had no idea what place to check out so early in the morning. Luckily, he was getting off a graveyard shift and knew a great place located near his work. As a result, introducing me to this gem.

Unfortunately, I did not take any photos of the interior of the building. I was too caught up on talking to my friend and my drive that I forgot to take photos. However, I do remember the building being beautiful inside. There were brick walls, natural lighting from the outside, and the fragrance of coffee everywhere. It was probably a hipster’s wet dream.

That being said, the dish I ordered for my long drive was their breakfast burrito:

In comparison to breakfast burritos I have eaten from the past, this was definitely a mediocre size. However, surprisingly fulfilling by the end of the meal. Overall, it contained your typical ingredients, but with more vegetables than expected. It wasn’t a bad touch so I have no complaints. Therefore, if I had to recommend it, I definitely would to a friend.

Now to the reason why I wanted to write a blog about this place… their Spanish Latte. Before entering the building, my friend who chose the place told me to order this drink he recommends to all his friends. He states this coffee being one where everyone leaves remembering and wishing to have again. With his bold statement, I had to test this claim. And, of course, he was correct.

This drink was so smooth and sweet that right now I am craving to have some in my hands. Sadly, I am 400+ miles away at this moment so I am unable to taste this delicious drink. Consequently, I highly recommend this to anyone in the Los Angeles area. In my opinion, this is probably the only real latte I have liked thus far in my coffee experience. Therefore, making this experience more memorable than the food to me.

As a result, come check this place out SoCal readers. If you love organic food or craving tea/coffee, this will be a great spot for you. Heck, you might be surprised and meet a celebrity at one of their locations. Don’t believe me? Here is a photo of Entourage filming a scene at one of their locations.
